First printing published as stated February 1903, the second book of The Epic of Wheat Trilogy beginning with The Octopus. Very attractively bound in vertically ribbed deep red boards with large gold stampings of the title at the top and of the author at the bottom of the front panel, circular gold wheat wreath design below the title, gold stamped spine titles with elaborate nouveau design of wheat shafts. Spine ends and tips exhibit moderate wear, discoloration spot on rear panel, front hinge starting, short handwritten presentation inscription on front endpaper faded but date of February 6, 1903 is still visible.
