1 Ashe, Elizabeth Intimate Letters from France / and Extracts from the Diary of Elizabeth Ashe 1917-1919
San Francisco, CA. Bruce Brough Press 1931 First Edition Thus Very Good Softcover SIGNED
Worn and faded pale blue wrappers bind this passionate and rather astonishing diary of this brave and determined woman's work with the Red Cross serving infants and children in France with the Infant Welfare Unit at a time when infant mortality was horribly high and pediatric medicine was desperately needed. The Diary is enlarged with an Armistice Day frontispiece in half-tone, and is SIGNED, DATED and INSCRIBED by Elizabeth Ashe on May 12, 1931 to the renowned collector 'Marion Huntington with my very best wishes.' Marion Prentice Huntington, the daughter of Henry E. Huntington maintained an impressive library of historical volumes. Faded blue paper wrappers; intact but frayed, small sticker shadow on front panel, first front-free endpaper has been removed, exposing bindery threads, Marion Huntington's bookplate on reverse of endpaper.Clean and very crisp interior with toning to pages. An intensely interesting and collectible book.
