27 Mazzucchelli, David Asterios Polyp
N. Y. Pantheon 2009 0307377326 / 9780307377326 First Edition Near Fine As New Hardcover
Nearly fine, new, clean, crisp and unread scarce stated first edition with the full number line including the 1. This striking, large and heavy hardcover is half-bound in what looks like a dense pressed cardboard with individual blindstamped impressions of Asterios to each panel; dressed in a jacket and smoking to the front and in shirtsleeves without a cigarette to the rear panel. The other half-panel is a deep purple with blue and white titles, the colored endpapers decorated with sketches of flowers...and some weeds. The wraparound pictorial dust jacket-band is sized to about 4/5ths of the book's height. This beautifully illustrated graphic novel of painterly images and muted colors even distinguishs each character's dialog in thought balloons with appropriately unique fonts. Asterios Polyp is a successfully ambitious novel, elegant and epic. David Mazzucchelli is an acclaimed comics artist/writer and his peers and other readers waited many years for this stunning tour-de-force.

29 Moore, Alan & O'Neill, Kevin The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen BLACK DOSSIER
La Jolla, Ca. America's Best Comics 2008 140120306X / 9781401203061 First Edition Fine As New/Fine Hardcover
Fine, new, clean, crisp and unread stated First Printing of this rather extraordinary graphic novel. Bound in embossed sharp black leatherette, blindstamped emblem to front panel, gray mottled endpapers, black silk marker bound-in, still-sealed two-color 3D glasses attached to back flap, the gorgeous pictorial dust jacket with full color illustrations to front and back protected in a new clear Brodart cover. The book itself fully illustrated primarily in color with some additional black and white. The book is quite fine but there is an odd cut-out piece to front pastedown at top edge near the spine. I bought this book new at publication and have stored it since so this strange missing bit is inexplicable. Printed advisory to the rear dust jacket: Suggested for Mature Readers.

34 Robbins, Tom Even Cowgirls Get the Blues
Boston, Massachusetts Houghton Mifflin Company 1976 First Edition Good Wrappers SIGNED
This is the VERY SCARCE UNCORRECTED PROOF bound in pale blue textured paper covers with black titles. SIGNED and inscribed "To ....Tom Robbins" in black pen to the title page. Arguably the funniest and one of the most memorable in Robbin's astonishing body of work. Paper covers generally faded and a little worn, sunned at spine, small separation incipient at spine head, diagonal creases at bottom front corner, tips worn, front free endpaper has one set of removed staple-holes, three page-corners diagonally-creased; one of which may have previously been paper-clipped causing waviness at that place on surrounding pages, text-edges less than fresh. The book may be a little worn but the 365 pages of content are still sparkling, and as Tom Robbins himself might say: "Swee-eet!"
